Ballast

Ballast is the weight in the bottom of a boat that provides stability and balance. When waves toss a ship to and fro, ballast keeps the vessel upright.

These sure and steady words from God provide ballast to my heart when everything around me seems to be tossed by the tempest. I return to them during elections to steady my heart and center my trust on the Triune God who lives. If the better story–the Story of God–has gripped our hearts, then we will be neither overly crushed nor overly elated as kings rise and fall around us.

“Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases” (Psalm 115:3).
